CBO Support

Support for
community organizations.

We connect community-based organizations with university data teams for technical support and data mentorship, so the decisions you make and the impact you report are built on solid data.

Supporting community organizations is one of the avenues our university units use to reach communities, a way to plug into the social work you are already doing. We pair CBOs with the data and research units we nurture inside universities, so a student and researcher team can give you hands-on technical support and data mentorship. We make the match and support the work throughout.

The goal is a data practice your team owns, and decisions you can stand behind, long after the mentorship ends.

Who the mentorship is for.

The mentorship is built for community-based organizations that want to make better use of their data. If that sounds like your team, apply below.

  • A community-based organization

You are a registered CBO, or a community organization in the process of registering.

  • Data is central to your mandate

Delivering on your mandate depends on data, whether you already collect it from programs, services, members, and day-to-day activities, or need support to build the infrastructure that produces it.

  • A clear data challenge

You have a specific data challenge, or a decision you want to make better, that mentorship could help with, whether that means working with data you hold or building what you don't yet have.

  • Someone to take part

Someone on your team can work with a university data team through the mentorship and keep the work going afterward.

Where the university team can help.

Each organization is different, so the university team shapes the support around your data challenge. It usually draws on some of the following.

Data system review

The team looks at how you collect and use data today, and finds where it slows you down or breaks.

Data collection tools

They help you set up forms and tools that fit your work, including offline collection with wCollect.

Organizing your data

They help you clean and structure the data you already have, and give it a reliable place to live.

Dashboards and reporting

They build simple dashboards and reports your team and your funders can rely on.

Data-driven decisions

They work with you on reading your data and turning it into decisions, so the numbers change what you do.

Skills that stay with you

The mentorship is hands-on, so your team can run the work on its own after it ends.
